The offices of Discovery Network Benelux, in the industrial heritage building Het Kraanspoor in Amsterdam North, were in need of a renovation. The existing offices, despite their ample glass front, were extremely dark. What Discovery wanted: a playful interior with a rough edge as a nod to the building’s industrial roots. In the new, bright, transparent and flexible interior, some of the solid, fire-resistant walls are replaced by glass. With this change, the lines of sight now run from the entrance all the way through to the rear of the office, creating a vast, spacious, transparent effect. The ‘rough edge’ is expressed in the use of robust studio spotlights as light sources.
